Psychology Department offer a regular four year Bachelor of Science Degree program,full time and part-time Masters Degree Programme, full time and Part-time Doctorate program, Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma programs and finally continuing education programmes.


Objective:
The program of Psychology at Nnamdi Azikiwe University has the general objective to promote in students a comprehensive education centered on social and humanistic cores of psychological knowledge in the discipline, professional and instrumental areas that identify psychologists, as well as the main models and paradigms that allow graduates to be placed in a disciplinary and interdisciplinary horizon, consistent with contemporary social reality and thus can contribute, competent and ethically, in solving problems arising in relation to the context of the individual, the family, the organizations and society in general.

Mission:
Consistent with Institutional Mission, the Department of Psychology at Nnamdi Azikiwe University is committed to integral education of psychologists with critical thinking and analytical skills able to intervene with scientific, ethical, and humanistic quality on social reality, its problems and conflicts.
The program aims for the scientific development of psychology, recognizing the current trends in national and international academic community and the contributions of other disciplines to understand the complexity of the mental processes of the human being.

It integrates teaching, research and outreach to the community to actively participate in solving problems concerning the individual, the family, the organizations and society at large, based on respect for human dignity and sense of work-related service.

The program ensures teachers, students and other members to engage freely in unity of life, with consistency of thought to search, discover, communicate and preserve the truth, based on the Institutional Educational Project as a contribution to the advancement of society.

The Faculty assumes the values ​​and principles of the discipline for the formation of a leading psychologist in the different areas of professional and human performance, ensuring that their work is experienced as a service and a mean for creating a culture of prevention and promotion of quality of life.
The program acts in accordance with national and international policies related to the development of psychology and through research based on scientific and technological progress and promote social development.


Vision:
The Department of Psychology at Nnamdi Azikiwe University will be recognized as a program with high academic quality standards and will also be evaluated by the national and international academic community as an excellent program, distinguished by its quality in the formation of psychologists that stand out, using current educational models that forms in students the knowledge building process, thought and action
Research will be one of the pillars of the formation of its students, with a strong background in the discipline, professional and instrumental levels and with willingness to serve the community, but also with critical skills. To achieve this, faculty will be composed of teachers with master's and doctorate degrees, having most of their time devoted to training research projects.

The program will strengthen its links with peer academic communities with national and international prestige to engage in exchange of academic products, publications, agreements and events.

The Department of Psychology development plans takes as its starting point the current trends in the discipline, the demands for higher education, the reality of the external environment and the development plan of the University. It aspires to become a focus of knowledge recognized nationally and internationally in the field of psychology, working for the service of the individual, the family and society, engaged permanently in the search, discovery, communication and preservation of truth, inspired by the Christian vision of mankind and the world.


Admission Requirements:
(a)        Admission Though University Matriculation Examination (UME), Candidates for this mode of entry should possess five “O” level credits obtained in  not more than two sittings which must include English Language.  Those majoring in Economics in addition should possess a credit in Mathematics, while for the other academic programs, a pass suffices.  Those intending to read Psychology must obtain a credit in Biology or Health Science, while for Political Science, a credit in Government or History is required.

 (b)        Direct Entry:  Candidates for direct entry should possess any of the following: Two “A” level passes in relevant subjects obtained in one sitting OR OND with at least upper credit OR NCE, HND or 1st Degree.

Duration of Program: (a)        UME Entrants:  Four years
(b)        Direct Entrants: Three years
